Final courses before the summer break
The SEAM Centre has three courses left before Inverness College breaks up for the summer. Solar PV installation training on 21st - 23rd May is heavily subscribed, but you might just get a place if you book quick. There are still some places left on the ever popular Awareness of Environmental Technologies course. It's an excellent introduction to the technologies for sales people, community groups, home-owners, and professionals such as planners and architects. Our final course this academic year is the Heat Pump installer course on 11th - 14th June. Again this one is heavily subscribed, so move quick if you woudl like a place. And if you needed any more incentive, all these courses are 50% off thanks to subsidy from the Energy Skills Partnership. Just contact the SEAM Centre to book on any of these courses.
Awareness of Environmental Technologies course in May
The next BPEC Awareness of Environmental Technologies course will take place at the SEAM Centre on 23rd and 24th May. This course gives an excellent overview of small-scale renewable energy technologies. The syllabus has been extended to now include micro Combined Heat and Power (Micro CHP) boilers and alse rainwater harvesting and grey water recylcing. These resource saving measures are becoming more and more common and it's useful to have a good understanding of how they work and the regulations that apply to them. Contact the SEAM Centre to book places or for more details.
Green Deal Advisor Training
The SEAM Centre has linked up with Wolseley / Plumb Center to be able to offer a 5 day Green Deal Advisor training course in April. Plumb Center will run and administer the course, and it will take place in the SEAM Centre, with its excellent training and demonstration facilities. The course content is available from
. Please get in touch if you would like more details.
New course dates announced
With increasing demand for renewable heat training, driven by the Renewable Heat Incentive, we are pleased to announce confirmation of dates for two courses taking place soon. We have a BPEC Biomass Heating course on 25th -28th March as a 4 day course with no site visit option. This will cost £900. On 7th to 10th May we offer the BPEC Heat Pump Installer course. This has recently been upgraded by BPEC and alligned with National Occupational Standards, and is now a comprehensive 4 day course, costing £800. If you are interested in booking, please call 01463 273307.

SEAM Centre wins at Energy North Awards
The SEAM Centre's important role in renewable energy skills training was recognised at the Energy North industry awards held on Friday 12th October. The event took place at the Drummossie Hotel in Inverness with an audience of over 150 representatives of the energy industry in the Highlands and Islands. The SEAM Centre was nominated in the "Best Renewable Energy - Onshore" category and was up against the ERI at North Highland College, SSE, RWE NPower Renewables and Muirden Energy. Peter Dennis, manager of the SEAM Centre, was there to receive the award on behalf of the SEAM Centre. It represents excellent recognition of the work of the SEAM Centre and its staff, and the importance of small-scale renewable energy systems in the energy future of Scotland.
Greenius funding for innovation
Up to £3 million of funding has been announced in the new Greenius – or Green Genius – national competition. The contest is seeking innovative solutions to questions of food, water and energy sustainability and successful applications will propose solutions that address at least two and preferably all three of these themes. Organisations are invited to compete for a share of a total fund with proposals for innovative technologies, processes and business models that are near to market but require some support for further development and commercialisation.

Biomass course full
The next BPEC biomass heating installer training course taking place at the SEAM Centre is full. There has been a huge level of demand for this course and we have a waiting list of candidates for future course dates. We are putting together the timetable for next year and the new biomass course dates, along with our other installer courses, will be announced soon.
Biomass installers consultation event
The University of the Highlands and Islands (UHI) is working closely with partners to establish the Highlands and Islands as a Bioenergy Region akin to those in Austria, Finland and Sweden. The potential benefits of establishing Highlands and Islands as a bioenergy region are substantial – there are however significant barriers to the widespread adoption of bioenergy technologies. In order to overcome these barriers UHI wishes to work with industry to identify solutions and to bring direct benefit to the region from bioenergy.
Therefore the University of the Highlands Islands Energy Research Group in conjunction with the SEAM Centre at Inverness College UHI is holding a consultation event for installers of biomass systems based within the region. It is an opportunity for you to inform our research activities and will assist in our submissions for funding to establish the Bioenergy Region and an applied research centre.
A sandwich lunch will be provided after the event along with an opportunity to discuss issues on a one to one basis with us.
To reserve a place please contact Elaine Morrison (Business Development Manager - UHI Energy Research Group - Tel: 07920 703883) by Monday 28 May 2012.
